Palace on Wheels has graced the Rajasthan tourism and Indian
railways since 26th January, 1982 when it made its inaugural
operations from October 1982. It initially comprised of saloons
that were used by the royalties of India.
Palace on Wheels has been rated as one of the best ten luxurious
rail journeys in the world.
Palace on Wheels offers you a heart-rending trip to the splendid forts and
palaces of Rajasthan in just seven days. Also discover the royal
history of Taj Mahal in Agra.
The journey to the hinterland of
the desert starts every Wednesday evening at 1800 hrs from Delhi
and ends on the following Wednesday early in the morning at 0730
hrs.

The 14 coaches are
named after former Rajput states matching the
aesthetics and interiors of the royal past. Each
saloon has a mini pantry and a lounge to ensure
availability of hot and cold beverage, and
refreshments and a place to relax and get together.

14 fully
air-conditioned deluxe saloons, each a combination
of 4 twin bedded chambers with channel music,
intercom, attached toilets, running hot and cold
water, shower, wall to wall carpeting and other
amenities. The furniture with its inlaid motifs has
been specially created for the Palace on Wheels. |

Restaurants: |
The train has two
lavish restaurants "The Maharaja" and "The Maharani"
with a Rajasthani ambience serving palate tickling
Continental, Chinese, India and Rajasthani cuisines.
The restaurants offer seating arranged in groups of
twos and fours near the windows. Chefs in the
attached pantry prepare Continental and Indian
specialties, with an emphasis on the cuisine of
Rajasthan. |

The train also boasts
of a well stocked bar offering the choicest of
sprits of Indian and international brands. Each
coach also offers a good collection of books to
choose from. |

Jaipur |
Arrive at 0700 hrs. Breakfast on board. Welcome to
the Pink City of Jaipur. Visit Hawa Mahal and Amber
Fort, both silent sentinels of a glorious era. Lunch
at a palace hotel. Visit Jantar Mantar, the age-old
observatory and City Palace, home to the erstwhile
rulers. Depart for Jaisalmer at 1930 hrs. Dinner on

Arrive at 0815 hrs. Breakfast on board. Morning
sightseeing of this 12th century fort. Visit the
exquisitely carved havelis and palaces with their
latticed windows, balconies, cupolas and facades.
Lunch on board. At 1700 hrs. visit the sand dunes
and take a camel ride. Dinner with cultural
programme at a palace hotel. Depart at 2345 hrs. for
Jodhpur. |

Jodhpur |
Arrive at 0700 hrs. Breakfast on board. Visit the
magnificent Mehrangarh and Jaswant Thada, the royal
cenotaph. Lunch at a palace hotel. Depart for Sawai
Madhopur at 1530 hrs. Dinner on board. |

Sawai Madhopur - Chittaugarh |
Arrive 0400 hrs. board. Depart by motorcoach for a
Safari in Ranthambor National Park. This Project
Tiger Reserve surrounds the imposing ramparts of the
10th century fort. Depart at 1030 hrs. for
Chittaurgarh. Lunch on board. Arrive at 1600 hrs.
Visit the Chittaurgarh Fort, lauded in legends of
valour and chivalry. Depart 2000 hrs. for Udaipur.

Day 6 - Mon:
Udaipur |
Breakfast on board. Proceed to Udaipur by motorcoach.
Sightseeing of Udaipur, the city of lakes, palaces,
gardens, temples and forts. Lunch at the Lake
Palace, the former summer residence of the Princes
of Mewar. Enjoy the tranquility of Lake Pichola.
Visit the City Palace in all its ancient glory.
Return to train at Chittaurgarh and depart for Agra
at 1830 hrs. Dinner on board. |

Bharatpur - Agra |
Arrive at 0600 hrs. at the Keoladeo Ghana National
Park at Bharatpur, which is home to 300 species of
birds, some flying in from as far as Siberia and
China. Breakfast on board.
Depart at 1145 hrs. for Fatehpur Sikri, the red
sandstone palatial complex built by Emperor Akbar
which now stands deserted. Lunch on board. Depart
for Agra and arrive at 1430 hrs. Visit the Agra Fort
and the beautiful Taj Mahal. Dinner on board. Depart
Agra at 2300 hrs. |
